One Saturday afternoon two childhood friends sat in front of a fire chatting about life. After not having seen each other for over 10 years, they talked about how remarkable the tapestry of life is, how nothing is coincidence and how one should take nothing for granted. They also conversed about life’s challenges and how one can never know for sure whether the road one is one, is in fact the right one. Sometimes it can seem as if everyone is just out for themselves, trying to fight their way to the top, scrambling for a place in the sun.

Being inspired by their friendship and curious to explore the reasons why their paths crossed once again, they chatted about the possibilities that life has to offer and how they can make the most of this second chance. They came to the conclusion that if they combined their dreams, their talents and passions, it would become a stronger force, for a threefold cord is not easily broken. What happens now when you have finally found your place in the sun? Surely there must be a bigger purpose to it all? The greatest command after loving God, at the end of the day is to love your neighbour as you love yourself. If we all embrace that the world, our world, would be a better place. They wanted to create something together, something real… for real and so the idea of The Finery Fair was born – where artists, artisans and lovers of art would mingle within a beautiful and creative space once a year. The Finery would be a platform for new artists to be discovered, whether actor, musician, potter or chef. The Finery’s primary purpose would be to equip promising people with skills, so that they could become self sustainable. The Finery Fair would be the “the gala event”, the “face of” and The Finery Makers initiative would be the greater goal, the fuel, the purpose behind the Fine Affair…
